The last three abortion facilities in the US state of Louisiana are about to be closed following the reversal of Roe v. Wade earlier this year. Mississippi has also closed all such facilities following its landmark case, Dobbs v. Jackson, which resulted in the US Supreme Court voting to repeal its infamous 1973 decision to impose abortion on US states.
After the Supreme Court’s “momentous” overturning of Roe v. Wade in June, US states such as Louisiana and Mississippi can decide their own abortion laws, and as many as half of US states are now limiting or banning, or are expected to ban, abortion, as reported by SPUC.
In Louisiana, providers of abortion may now receive a $100,000 fine or up to 10 years in prison after Louisiana’s Supreme Court blocked pro-abortion attempts to block pro-life “trigger” laws, enacted to come into effect following the repeal of Roe v. Wade.
Mississippi is also one of 13 states to have similar “trigger” laws.
SPUC’s CEO, John Deighan, recently said: “This kind of dramatic victory could happen here [in the UK]. The abortion fanatics know it and are terrified.”
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “The overturning of Roe v. Wade means that dozens of US states are making the right and just decision to save potentially millions of unborn lives by kicking out the predatory abortion industry.
“This is a great victory for the unborn, as well as for mothers and families, all of whom were targets of abortion.
“What is happening in the US is an example of what can be achieved. One of the reasons why pro-abortion apologists in the UK are now so unsettled, especially by SPUC, is that they know pro-lifers here are also similarly determined to rid this country of the blight of abortion – an aim that we work every day to achieve.”
