Please join pro-lifers today in prayer for the 10 million unborn lives lost to abortion over the past 55 years. SPUC has launched a National Prayer Campaign to commemorate with love every one of the millions of unborn lives lost to abortion in England, Wales and Scotland. “It matters profoundly that such lives are indeed recognised as lives”, said SPUC.
Today, 27 October, marks the 55th Anniversary of the Abortion Act in 1967.
To commemorate the millions of lives lost to abortion as a result of the passing of the Act, The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has organised a National Prayer Campaign in collaboration with the Knights of St. Columba, to encourage all people to pray and trust for an end to the culture of death and for a flourishing of the culture of life.
SPUC’s Prayer Campaign has set a target of 10 million prayers, one prayer for every unborn life lost to abortion in England, Wales and Scotland. The Campaign will last until 27 April 2023, the 55th anniversary of the Abortion Act coming into effect.
You can pledge your prayer online on our dedicated Prayer Campaign webpage.
By pledging your prayers, you are helping to ensure that each day we move closer to a pro-life future, free from the violence of abortion. Please help SPUC build a culture of life.
Founded in January 1967 to oppose the legislation of abortion, which was at the time being debated in Parliament in the run-up to the 1967 Abortion Act, SPUC has since become the UK’s largest and most active anti-abortion group.
“What might have been”
SPUC’s Michael Robinson, Executive Director (Public Affairs and Legal Services), said: “Prayer is a meaningful and often moving act of witness and invocation for millions of people and many religions around the world. This simple and inclusive act, which can take many different forms, is as vital as ever as we build a culture of life in the UK and elsewhere.
“Every one of the 10 million lives lost to abortion since the passing of the 1967 Abortion Act was precious. It is so important that these lives do not become a collective, cold and impersonal statistic. Each life lost to abortion was a person who would have gone on to have a name and hopefully lived a meaningful and cherished life – we may even have met them on the street and even called them friend or spouse – if it weren’t for the Abortion Act.
“Please consider saying a prayer for any one of these lost lives. It matters profoundly that such lives are indeed recognised as lives. To fight the global reach and power of abortion, we must love. When we say a loving prayer for the unborn, love is what ultimately triumphs, harboured within the cherished commemoration of what might have been.”
