Coerced abortion: Texas man spiked wife’s drinks with abortion drug because pregnancy would “ruin his plans” with mistress

Mason Herring, 38, an attorney from Texas, has been indicted for spiking his wife’s drinks with an abortion drug after she became pregnant with their third child.

When Mr Herring found out that his wife, Catherine, 38, was pregnant, he complained that it would “ruin his plans and make him look like a jerk” – he was having an affair at the time and wanted a separation from his wife.

Mr Herring then spiked his wife’s drinks on repeated occasions with the abortion drug misoprostol.

Catherine soon began to suspect that her husband was drugging her after being given a glass of cloudy water. Within half an hour of drinking it, Catherine had diarrhoea and cramps, followed by bleeding.

In samples of drinks given to Catherine by her husband, at least two were found to contain traces of misoprostol. A secret camera installed in the family home also caught Mr Herring spiking a glass of cranberry juice.

Mr Herring has now been charged with assault of a pregnant person and forced abortion. The baby survived but was born prematurely.

Anthony Osso, the assistant district attorney overseeing the case, said Mr Herring’s acts were “pre-meditated. What we are alleging Mr. Herring did, which we believe the evidence supports, is a pretty heinous act. To do that to someone who trusts you, it’s taking advantage of that trust.”

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “Forced abortion, either in secret or through coercion, is a blight on many women’s lives – up to 15% of women in Britain – which abortion apologists consistently choose to ignore, despite the overwhelming evidence showing that is exists and is widespread.

“These are real stories of horror and betrayal, almost always involving the misuse of women by shameless men – a reality that the abortion industry covers up every day, adding to the betrayal that so many women suffer.

“Abortion ultimately serves selfish men while hurting the women abortion apologists purport to protect.”
