The rate of abortions in Texas has fallen by up to 97% since the repeal of Roe v. Wade in June, this year, statistics reveal.
Just 68 abortions took place in Texas in July 2022, the month following the dramatic overturning of Roe v. Wade by the US Supreme Court on 24 June. In July 2021, the previous year, there were 4,879 abortions in Texas.
The majority of the 68 abortions that did take place in July 2022 have been attributed to a Harris Country judge in Texas who attempted to block a pro-life “trigger law” that was activated in the US state following the Supreme Court’s June ruling.
Last month, SPUC reported that over 10,000 unborn lives have already been saved in the United States because of the overturning of Roe v. Wade. It has also been estimated that there will be 60,000 fewer abortions in 2023.
Since the “momentous” repeal of Roe vs. Wade, half of US states moved or are expected to move to ban or limit abortion.
Following the repeal of Roe, a wave of pro-abortion violence swept across the US, including in Nebraska, where pro-abortion militants recently threatened to “shoot up” pro-life students at a Catholic ministry venue, as reported by SPUC this week.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “The overturning of Roe v. Wade has already made an enormous difference to the lives of unborn babies, thousands of whom are still alive today because they were allowed to live.
“Each of these precious babies is an individual, not simply a statistic. Every one of them is a new free will added to the world, able to grow, express themselves individually, and ultimately make choices of their own.
“While mainstream media and abortion idealogues are aghast that so many abortions cannot now take place, this says much more about the warped anti-life ideology they hold and promote than it does about the dedicated pro-lifers who fought back on behalf of the unborn.”
