"Abortion extremist" Dame Diana Johnson given ministerial role in Starmer Government

Dame Diana Johnson, a noted "pro-abortion extremist", has been made a Minister of State in the Home Office in Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour Government.

Dame Johnson, Labour MP for Kingston upon Hull North and Cottingham, has repeatedly campaigned for abortion up to birth by hijacking justice bills to affect de facto decriminalisation in the UK.

These amendments would have permitted abortion for any reason, including sex selection, up to the point of birth.

Most recently, Dame Johnson tabled an amendment to the Criminal Justice Bill to allow women to carry out their own abortions at any time of pregnancy, in effect bringing about total deregulation of abortion – a move opposed by over 500 medical professionals in an open letter.

If any of Dame Johnson’s amendments had passed, Britain would have been left with one of the most extreme abortion regimes in the world.

The Criminal Justice Bill amendment was ultimately not voted on due to the calling of the 2024 General Election.

Many pro-life MPs lost their seats last week, including Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, Sir Liam Fox and Miriam Cates. Pro-abortion MPs Dame Johnson, Stella Creasy and Jess Phillips were returned to Parliament.

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “Dame Diana Johnson has a history of exploiting justice bills to impose abortion up to birth. Her appointment to a senior role in the Home Office is therefore highly inappropriate and ideological. This might be a sign of things to come under a Labour Government.

“As a consequence of the General Election result, unborn children and their mothers are under threat from the abortion lobby like never before, as this appointment demonstrates. We must continue to push back against such extremism and call it out for what it is. The British public deserves to know what its MPs really think.”
