The Life organisation is alleging that abortion providers such as Marie Stopes International are railroading women into having terminations. Mr Peter Garrett, research director, said that quick abortions during women's lunch-hours could cause post-abortion trauma. He pointed out that financial backing for abortion was 20 times more than funding for pro-life activities. [Catholic Times, 12 March, 2000]


A baby girl who was born yesterday in Nottingham, England, might have been aborted if doctors had known that she was the result of an ectopic pregnancy. A fatty wall which developed around the unborn child obscured her from scans. It is very unusual for children to survive ectopic pregnancies. [Daily Record, 10 March, 2000]


Spain's bishops have reminded Catholics of their right either to spoil their ballot papers or leave them blank in protest at the lack of a pro-life party in Sunday's general election. The church is disappointed that the ruling Popular Party did not repeal abortion legislation, though many bishops consider it the least anti-life party because it says it will not widen access to abortion.
