News,

New UK government and Catholic bishops spell danger for unborn.

John Smeaton, SPUC director, has said that Britain may face a renewal of anti-life laws and policies under the new Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition. However, Mr Smeaton added that he thinks a greater threat than the coalition government is the policy of the Catholic bishops of England and Wales. Mr Smeaton said that those bishops go along with prevailing anti-life policies. Mr Smeaton concluded that we will never be safe from the culture of death emanating from government and parliament until and unless Catholic episcopal policy in this country is reversed. Irish children to be given STD vaccine before they become sexually active.

Mary Harney, Irish Minister for Health, has announced that her cervical cancer vaccination programme for schoolgirls will begin on 17 May. Patrick Buckley of European Life Network said that the vaccine is actually to prevent HPV (human papilloma virus), a sexually-transmitted disease, together with other sexually-transmitted diseases. The vaccine is designed to be used before young girls become sexually active. Mr Buckley questioned the need for the vaccine, saying: “Why would young girls, at the age of about 11, 12, 13 and 14, need to be vaccinated against sexually transmitted diseases?” [Patrick Buckley, 10 May] http://bit.ly/dp7OZS
