US House of Representatives passes abortion limit bill
The United States House of Representatives has passed a bill aimed at banning most abortions after 20 weeks’ gestation. The bill has been passed on the second anniversary of the conviction of Kermit Gosnell, the late-term abortionist, and succeeded mainly due to Republican votes. The bill includes exceptions for those babies conceived in rape. It also requires that the mother be given medical treatment or counselling at least 48 hours before the late-term abortion. President Obama has vowed to veto the bill if it is passed in both the House and the Senate. [LifeSiteNews, 13 May] Anthony Ozimic, SPUC's communications manager, commented: "Although the intentions of those who support such bills may be good, this kind of compromise legislation is misguided both ethically and strategically."
