A conservative columnist has argued that sex-selective abortion is a legacy of abortion on demand. Dominic Lawson, writing for the Mail newspaper, said: "If [an unborn child] has no moral status during the temporary period of total dependency on the mother, why should one reason for termination be any more legal or illegal  than another? ... That’s what pro-choice means, however much those who framed the law might seek to distance themselves from the consequences." [Mail, 20 January]
