The video celebrates her daughter's life - mostly before birth.
The Kardashian/Jenner family are best known for their tangled love lives, addiction to selfies, and of course, Bruce Jenner's gender reassignment surgery - all documented in their reality TV show, Keeping up With the Kardashians.
The clan are not known for being pro-life, with the Kardashian family visiting Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion provider, last May. As many big name celebrities regularly champion abortion, it's a particularly pleasant surprise to hear Kylie Jenner describe pregnancy as the "most beautiful, empowering, and life changing experience I’ve had in my entire life."
The youngest of the famous family revealed, after months of media speculation, that she had a baby with boyfriend Travis Scott on 1 February, a daughter named Stormi. After months of staying away from social media, and never officially announcing the pregnancy, Kylie released a video called "To Our Daughter" over the weekend.
The 10 minute documentary, which has as of now been viewed more than forty-one million times on Youtube, celebrates the value of her daughter's life - well before she was born. The heartwarming video starts with Kylie's own birth, and ends with that of her daughter, and includes the excited parents attending ultrasound scans and sharing the images with friends, footage of Stormi kicking inside the womb, and audio of her heartbeat.
"We counted all her toes today," Jenner says as one point, while showing friends a 3D ultrasound of her baby’s face at 25 weeks.
Choosing life joyfully
The reality TV star has received criticism for having a baby at the age of 20. However, Jenner’s best friend, Jordyn Woods, who narrates the video, addressed the new baby about her mother’s certainty in having her. "When you’re 20 years old, you’re just figuring out your life. You don’t know what you want … you’re just becoming a young adult," Woods said. "There was one thing your mom knew for sure, and that was you."
Beauty of pregnancy
Kylie has also spoken out about her decision not to announce the pregnancy or document it on social media. "My pregnancy was one [journey] I chose not to do in front of the world," she wrote on Instagram. "I knew for myself I needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how. there was no gotcha moment, no big paid reveal I had planned. I knew my baby would feel every stress and every emotion so I chose to do it this way for my little life and our happiness."
She concluded: "Pregnancy has been the most beautiful, empowering, and life changing experience I’ve had in my entire life and I’m actually going to miss it. I appreciate my friends and especially my family for helping me make this special moment as private as we could. My beautiful and healthy baby girl arrived February 1st and I just couldn’t wait to share this blessing. I’ve never felt love and happiness like this I could burst!"
