Planned Parenthood aborted 321,384 babies last year

Cecile Richards has emphasised Planned Parenthood's provision of prenatal care and contraception - but both are down.

Healthcare is down, profits are up.

Planned Parenthood, America's biggest abortion provider, quietly released its 2016-17 annual report over the New Year's weekend. It reveals that the abortion giant carried out 321,848 abortions during the year, and made a profit of $98.5 million.

All about abortion

The number of abortions represents a slight decrease from the 328,348 carried out in 2015-2016. However, it provided just 3,889 adoption referrals and 7,762 "prenatal services" - one adoption referral for every 83 abortions and prenatal care for one woman for every 239 abortions. Planned Parenthood's provision of prenatal care has dropped by nearly 30 per cent since 2016 (an investigation by Live Action found that only 3 of the 68 Planned Parenthood clinics they called offered prenatal care).

In addition, despite PP President Cecile Richards frequent touting of the organisation's contraception services, these had also dropped by one percent since the last report, going from 2,808,815 in 2015 to 2,701,866 - a 48 per cent drop from 4,009,549 in 2009.

Short of money?

The report shows a decrease in the overall number of patients Planned Parenthood saw, from 2.5 million in 2015 to 2.4 million. However, despite this (and a slight drop in government funding) the organisation achieved a record income of $1.46 billion and the fifth highest annual profit—$98.5 million—in its history. The abortion company gained  $86.5 million
from 721,000 new donors giving an average of $120 each.

Not a healthcare organisation

"Typical under Cecile Richards' leadership of Planned Parenthood, the abortion giant once again cut their prenatal services to almost non-existent levels, cut contraception services, and served 100,000 less people than last year, while still committing over 321,000 abortions," said Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director who is now a pro-life advocate.

"Their annual report demonstrates that Planned Parenthood is not a healthcare organization but a political movement, intent on forcing their pro-abortion views on as many Americans as possible."

According to American Life League's initial analysis, "Planned Parenthood spent the last year reducing medical activity and increasing its community and political organizing."
