"Your child can be happy ... just like I am"
A pregnant mother who discovered her unborn child had Down’s syndrome was worried about what kind of future her baby could have - but she wasn’t expecting this response.
15 young adults with Down’s syndrome have teamed up to produce a heartwarming video reassuring the mum that her baby has a great life ahead of her.
The National Association of People with Down Syndrome received an email on February 9th from a woman who said simply:
I'm expecting a baby.
I've discovered he has Down syndrome.
I'm scared: what kind of life will my child have?
Their response will bring a tear to your eye.
They brought together 15 young people with Down’s syndrome, speaking a variety of languages, to reassure the anxious mother that her child can still have a life worth living.
And if the reaction is anything to go by, these young people’s message is having an impact on others too.

Their reply in full:
Dear future mum,
Don’t be afraid.
Your child will be able to do many things. He’ll be able to hug you. He’ll be able to run towards you.
He’ll be able to speak and tell you he loves you.
He’ll be able to go to school, like everybody. He’ll be able to learn to write. And he’ll be able to write to you, if someday he is far away.
Because indeed, he’ll be able to travel too.
He’ll be able to help his father fix his bicycle. He’ll be able to work and earn his money.
And with that money, he’ll be able to invite you out for dinner. Or rent an apartment and go living alone.
Sometimes it will be difficult. Very difficult. Almost impossible.
But isn't it like that for all mothers?
Dear future mum, your child can be happy. Just like I am.
And you'll be happy too.
