Adele says her new priority in life is being a mum to her young son
She's one of the most famous singers on the planet, has won pretty much every award going, and just last night dominated the Brit Awards.
But none of that matters as much to Adele as being a mother to her young son, according to an interview the singer gave to Vogue magazine:
"When I met Simon, I knew that something was going to happen," she remembers. After the world-class losers whose bad behaviour became the fodder for some of the most universally powerful songs of our time, Adele had finally found herself a winner. Their son, Angelo, was conceived, she tells me authoritatively, "the day the last Vogue cover came out!"
The two new men in Adele's life transformed it completely. They have eradicated the need for much of the drama that she used to thrive on. "I can’t have any other junk in my head to worry about as well," she tells me. Angelo, meanwhile, "makes me very proud of myself. When I became a parent, I felt like I was truly living. I had a purpose, where before I didn't."
Being a mum first
Adele went on to say that her new priorities in life are being a mum, then taking care of herself, while her career comes third.
Sadly, while most people might just be happy that Adele is finding so much joy in being a mother, abortion advocates are complaining (again) that a woman with a successful career could find any kind of fulfilment in motherhood.
Feminist backlash
Slate blogger Elissa Strauss complained:
This is a bold, potentially controversial, statement for a celebrity mom. Adele, ADELE, didn't feel like she was truly living before she became a mom?! She, the universally adored force of nature behind, at the time, one of the bestselling albums of all time, felt like she didn't have a purpose?
… A major goal of feminism has been for women to be able to seek lives and identities that exist outside their traditional roles as mothers and caretakers. The degree that feminism has been successful in this has, without a doubt, been fantastic for women. Still, there remains debate about exactly we are supposed to make of our roles as mothers now that we've been (partially) liberated.
Strauss did eventually decide that Adele could be forgiven for the 'crime' of enjoying motherhood, and reclaimed for the 'feminist' cause. But it's abundantly clear that she's apoplectic that any woman could talk about putting her family ahead of her career.
This isn't the first time a celebrity has come under fire for daring to embrace being a mum, either, as Live Action News points out.
2011 Oscars
When a pregnant Natalie Portman won an Oscar in 2011, she thanked her husband for giving her "the most important role of [her] life."
And with a sad predictability, the 'feminist' bloggers immediately started queuing up to attack Portman for daring to care about her unborn child.
Unfortunately for Adele, it seems that nothing has changed five years later on.
So much for choice
Pro-abortion activists often make a big noise about 'choice'. It's sad that they never seem prepared to support women who make the life-affirming choice to continue with their pregnancy and then devote themselves to motherhood.
