The issue of how the dying are diagnosed was a "core problem" of the LCP, says Professor Pullicino
New end-of-life care guidance is problematic, according to a professor of clinical neuroscience at the University of Kent.
Professor Pullicino writes that the new guidance issued by the National Institute for Care and Excellence (Nice) is no better in many respects than the Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP), which was discontinued last year. The Nice document does not address the issue of how the dying are diagnosed.
This was a "core problem" of the LCP according to Professor Pullicino. He also describes the section on hydration as "a disaster of misinformation, distortion and ambiguity with at least one major error." [Telegraph, 3 August]
