A mother who suffered a stroke and 'locked-in-syndrome' (where the patient can hear, think and feel but not move) has spoken of her distress after hearing medical staff and relatives discussing the possibility of switching off her life support.

For two weeks, Kate Allatt was unable to communicate. She said: "You must assume everyone is conscious until you've proved otherwise, not the other way around." [Mix1023, 14 October]
