Action Medical Research focuses on funding research to prevent and treat disease and disability in babies and children.
This charity is a member of the AMRC.
In an email to SPUC, the charity stated: "Action Medical Research is not currently funding any research involving the use of human embryonic stem cells but would consider funding stem cell research that involves human embryonic stem cells providing it follows the stringent regulations set by various UK government agencies." [23/10/14].
In an article entitled Life or Death Dilemma for parents (1999), the charity's communications director states: "Every year, this agonising choice is faced by thousands of parents who know there is a chance of passing on a disease to their children. If they decide to take the risk, and the baby is found to be carrying the disease, they must then decide whether to continue or terminate the pregnancy."
