UK disability charity Mencap works with people with a learning disability, in addition to their family and carers, to provide support, advice, and to campaign for greater opportunities while challenging attitudes and prejudice.
In a joint letter to Peers dated July 2014, members of Mencap asserted that "an assisted suicide law would for the first time in this country introduce the idea that there are some people whose deaths can actively be brought about; whose suicide, unlike other people’s, society would make no significant effort to prevent and indeed would actually assist."
