SPUC slams "perverse" Supreme Court Ruling on the rights of the unborn
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has responded to the Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling that the unborn has no rights in the Irish constitution outside the right to life in the Eighth Amendment.
"This perverse ruling makes it abundantly clear that if Article 40.3.3 is repealed unborn babies will not only lose their current constitutional protection but will be exposed to abortion on demand up to birth," said Pat Buckley, SPUC’s representative in Ireland. "It also vindicates the decision of the Irish people to insert the 8th Amendment into the Constitution in 1983 and underlines the vital importance of retaining it in the Constitution.
"We must all redouble our efforts to ensure that the 8th Amendment is retained and that unborn babies are properly protected," he concluded.
