SPUC has launched a petition calling on Prime Minister Theresa May to condemn the demonisation of Northern Ireland MPs who oppose abortion and same sex marriage.
The petition is in light of the criticism of the proposed deal with the socially conservative Democratic Unionist Party to keep the minority Conservative government in power.
Under attack by pro-abortion lobby
Liam Gibson, SPUC's Northern Ireland Development Officer, said in a press release: "The Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is solidly pro-life and has consistently voted to defend all human life, not only in Northern Ireland, but at Westminster and in Europe as well. They have also defended marriage as the lifelong union of a man and a woman. This position reflects the views of the overwhelming majority of people in Northern Ireland as well as a solid block of opinion in Britain."
Mr Gibson added: "Northern Ireland has steadfastly resisted every effort to implement the legalisation of abortion which would inevitably result in a slaughter of innocent babies. That’s why Northern Ireland MPs whose support Theresa May needs to form a government are under such unremitting attack by the pro-abortion lobby right now.
We will not be silenced
"This petition will give people the opportunity to send a message to the Prime Minister urging her to stand up to the bullies and the bigots seeking to demonise anyone who rejects the social policies which have led to the killing of over 8.7 million unborn children under the Abortion Act in Britain."
SPUC's Chief Executive John Smeaton said:
"The pro-life and pro-family citizens of Britain and Northern Ireland will not be silenced by the vicious attacks on Northern Ireland MPs who are currently in the spotlight as Theresa May seeks to form a government with their support."
