Various birth control (contraception) methods can cause abortion.
In many cases, people tempted to use a particular birth control method do not wish to do anything that would endanger their embryos. Nonetheless, several artificial contraceptive methods also carry a risk of terminating a pregnancy that has already begun, including:
- Combined oral contraceptives
- Progestin-only pills (the ‘mini-Pill’)
- Combined injectable contraceptives
- Intra-uterine devices (IUDs)
- Contraceptive implants
- Progestin-only injectable contraceptive
- Emergency Contraceptives
- RU486 (also marketed as Mifepristone)
