SPUC Scotland’s primary youth initiative, Project Truth, has been honoured with the Michael Bell Memorial Award.
The UK Knights of St Columba, a member of the International Alliance of Catholic Knights, nominated Project Truth for this prestigious award. The International Judging Panel chose the Scottish group from a number of nominations from around the world. It is the first time a British group has won the award.
The International Alliance of Catholic Knights brings together fifteen Orders, working in twenty-six countries throughout the world who all share the same commitment to the service of Christ, and all are deeply committed to promoting the principle of the right to life of every human being from the moment of conception until natural death.
Project Truth, established in 2013, has grown to become the most prominent pro-life street outreach group in the UK. The initiative unites young people from all around the UK, aiming to bring the pro-life message to the streets of Scotland, changing hearts and minds one conversation at a time.
Commenting on receiving the International Award Louise Grant, Youth Director of SPUC Scotland said: "SPUC Scotland is greatly encouraged by the recognition from such an eminent source. The young people involved with Project Truth are remarkably talented and courageous. It’s reassuring to know the future of the pro-life movement is in such capable hands."
Project Truth creates an opportunity for young people aged 16-35 who are passionate about the pro-life cause to engage with the public on the issue. It also unites young people from across Scotland who are involved in pro-life work on a local level, creating a strong national youth network for Scotland.
Bertie Grogan, Supreme Knight of the St Columba said:
"The Knights of St Columba are delighted that Project Truth, a SPUC Scotland initiative have won the prestigious International Michael Bell Award.
As Supreme Knight of the Knights of St Columba here in Britain I am delighted that the steadfast work of young people here in our country has been recognised Internationally."
