The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has condemned Westminster’s extreme abortion regime which was imposed on the region of Northern Ireland last night at midnight (Tuesday October 22nd). The world’s oldest pro-life organisation has called on pro-life groups and politicians to adopt a zero-tolerance policy to bargaining over unborn children’s lives.
After MLAs failed to avert abortion decriminalisation on October 21st, SPUC are concerned that, faced with Europe’s most extreme abortion regime, pro-life politicians may attempt to strike a compromise over the legislation which would "result in normalising abortion and undermining the sanctity of all human life".
No negotiation over the most vulnerable lives on earth
SPUC Northern Ireland Political Officer, Liam Gibson said:
"Faced with the most extreme abortion regime in Europe it is not surprising that people are eager to find ways to protect as many children as possible. However, we must never forget that every single child has the right not to be put to death. This is not something that can be negotiated. The law must protect the lives of all children regardless of their disabilities, the stage of their development or the circumstances of their conception. If we are to have any hope of restoring respect for human life we must insist on this. An attempt to limit abortion to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy thereby targeting the weakest and most vulnerable children in the first three months of their lives will simply result in normalising abortion and in undermining the sanctity of all human life.
"There is no acceptable level of violence against children. At midnight on Tuesday 22 October the law which had saved the lives of over 100,000 babies in Northern Ireland since 1967 was repealed.
"Tuesday , will be remembered as one of the darkest days in all of Northern Ireland’s tragic history. It would be even sadder, however, if the people who have fought so hard in recent weeks to defend the lives of unborn children were now to abandon the most vulnerable amongst them".
Mr Gibson further stated that: "We must never allow the killing of unborn children to become normalised. Every abortion is an act of lethal violence directed at an innocent child and there is no acceptable level of violence against children.
"There will be no bargaining over the lives of unborn children on the part of SPUC", Liam Gibson concluded.
