Abortion pills, also referred to as chemical or medical abortions, are four times more dangerous than surgical abortions, according to a report from the American Journal of Physicians and Surgeons. Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications said: "Pro-abortion advocates falsely claim that abortion is ‘safe and simple’. We know that this is not true. It’s time to stop gambling with women’s health."

The report stated:

• Many physicians and patients may be unaware that complications occur four times more frequently from chemical abortions compared to surgical abortions.
• Physicians who seek to advocate for their female patient’s best interests should become aware that chemical abortion results in complications far more often than its proponents acknowledge.
• Over 3000 women have required hospitalisation after a chemical abortion.
• To date, 24 women have died following the consumption of abortion pills. Including a healthy 21 year-old woman who died after a heart-attack.
• The side effects of cramping, vaginal bleeding, hemorrhage, nausea, weakness, fever/chills, vomiting, headache, diarrhoea, and dizziness occur in almost all women.

Mr Robinson said: "The approach of pro-abortion advocates is to deceive women into thinking that abortion pills are safe and simple. They are neither. They are powerful drugs designed to kill an unborn child. Abortion pills are being continually exposed as a serious threat to the health and wellbeing of women.  It is time to stop gambling with women’s health."

UK abortion pill guidelines "playing fast and loose with women’s health"

Last year in the United Kingdom, 71% of abortions were carried out using abortion pills.

Despite growing concerns over the safety of abortion pills, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), earlier this month, called for women to obtain drugs over Skype or Facetime instead of meeting with their doctor, and then perform their own DIY abortion at home as reported by SPUC.

Currently, women in Britain can be sent home with the second abortion drug, misoprostol. The RCOG’s new report, calls for all abortion drugs to be consumed at home with no medical care or supervision.

It also calls for doctors to online chat with women, instead of ever meeting them face to face.

Mr Robinson added: "We are informed of the fact that abortion pills are causing harmful physical consequences for women. Despite this, UK medical bodies are determined to gamble with women’s health and pursue their own pro-abortion agenda."
