AMAZE, an organisation that partners with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), recently released a video titled "What is an Abortion?" that depicted the human life being aborted as nothing more than a small pink blob.
Allegedly aimed at children and young adults, the pro-abortion video explained the procedure of having an abortion through a character called Sam.
Depicting vacuum aspiration and chemical abortion methods, the animation showed the baby to be simply a round daub that could easily be flushed out. There was no indication in the short cartoon that the unborn child was human at all or that within the first trimester it would already have a heartbeat, fingers and eyes.
While Amaze has depicted ovaries and sperm with eyes and other facial features in similar cartoons, in this video it chose to leave the baby or embryo entirely featureless.
"Dishonest imagery that creates a false image of what abortion really entails"
John Smeaton, SPUC Chief Executive said:
"The video’s depiction of the baby in the woman’s womb robbed the baby of its essential humanity, as well as its fundamental right to life - which it has from the very moment of conception. SPUC pushes back against such dishonest imagery that creates a false image of what abortion really entails."
Mr Smeaton added that:
"It is disappointing that the United Kingdom funds such organisations as the UNFPA that are partnered with Amaze. The UNFPA, which itself has a terrible record - not least in its attitude to forced abortion in China - receives considerable funding from the British government. Parliament should reconsider its support of content that diminishes and rejects the humanity of unborn babies."
Providing "young adolescents" with "medically accurate" and "honest sex education"
Amaze claims to "provide young adolescents around the globe with medically accurate, age-appropriate, affirming, and honest sex education they can access directly online - regardless of where they live or what school they attend".
Despite its mission statement, Amaze, in partnership with the UNFPA, is complicit in the promotion of a so-called right to abortion, which does not exist in international law, and the necessary misrepresentation of what such a procedure is destroying. Indeed, international law recognises the right to life of all human beings.
Moreover, the United Kingdom is the leading funder of UNFPA core and non-core projects, contributing nearly £120 million in 2018.
