SPUC has launched a nationwide public awareness campaign on the dangers of DIY home abortions ahead of a Government consultation on making this major change in abortion provision permanent.
Antonia Tully, SPUC Director of Campaigns, said: “It is especially important that we raise awareness now, before dangerous DIY abortion regime is made permanent. The most effective way of getting our message across is by delivering leaflets directly to households.”
The leaflet urges members of the public to write to their local MP and request an immediate stop to DIY abortion.
DIY Abortion
Since March 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, abortion providers have been able to send women abortion drugs, under the “pills through the post” system. This means:
- Women are being certified for abortion without seeing a doctor in person.
- Women are going through the horrific abortion process by themselves, with no medical supervision.
- Powerful drugs are being sent through the post, with no way of knowing who actually takes them.
Antonia Tully said: “This is an urgent task and we hope that pro-lifers up and down the country will take part in this initiative. This is life-saving work, as every leaflet pushed through a letterbox has the potential to help a pregnant woman change her mind. Every leaflet may inspire a concerned citizen to raise this vital issue with his or her MP. Every leaflet could save a baby’s life.”
SPUC is encouraging people to take proper precautions when undertaking door-to-door leafleting and has issued Covid updated guidelines.
