“Saving the right to save lives is vital” says SPUC, in the week that pro-life vigils come under threat in Parliament from pro-abortion MP, Rupa Huq. As vigils organised by the 40 Days for Life movement begin, Rupa Huq’s bill to introduce buffer zones around abortion clinics comes up for Second Reading in the House of Commons.
Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications said: “Defending pro-life vigils this week is particularly important as vigils get under way around Britain. SPUC does not organise pro-life vigils, but we have been at the forefront of the political campaign to protect this life-saving work.”
Mr Robinson continued: “Despite the life-saving work of pro-life vigils, pro-abortion MP Rupa Huq is making another attempt to bring in buffer zones around abortion facilities. Pro-life citizens have a right to gather peacefully and women have the right to receive the care and help they offer.”
Peaceful vigil in Edinburgh
Edinburgh is among the towns and cities holding a 40 Days for Life vigil. Edinburgh leader Melain Ehsan said: “In 2019, 13,583 unborn children died by abortion in Scotland… We hope and pray that our peaceful presence will be a positive witness to alternatives to abortion and will open eyes to the reality of abortion in our city.”
Ms Ehsan went on to say: “Since 2004, more than 1,000,000 people globally have joined together to pray and fast for an end to abortion and more than 17,000 children from have been saved from abortion. 40 Days for Life has seen over 200 abortion workers quit their jobs and more than 100 abortion facilities close following campaigns outside their doors.”
