SNP MP Dr Lisa Cameron has thanked SPUC after receiving over three thousand thank you notes from pro-lifers across the country, expressing their gratitude for her fearless defence of unborn children.
SPUC has been encouraging pro-lifers to send a thank you message to Dr Cameron after she received a death threat following her vote against abortion clinic buffer zones.
Dr Cameron said: “Thank you so much to everyone at SPUC. I think we are elected to Parliament to protect the most vulnerable and that’s certainly the ethos I carry with me in everything I do in Parliament.
“I’m so heartened and overwhelmed by their support and I’ve received so many emails alongside these cards of support. I know there is great support across Scotland for the work of SPUC and to ensure that work continues.
“I am very overwhelmed to receive these thank you cards today and will be pledging to respond to everyone who has sent me a card. I can’t thank you enough for the support you have given, it has made all the difference to me during the most difficult and at times traumatic episodes linked to my stance to protect the unborn, which are the most vulnerable individuals in our society.”
Fearless Lisa Cameron
Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications presented Dr Cameron with over three thousand thankyou messages from pro-lifers expressing their gratitude.
He said: “Over the last year Dr Cameron has come under great pressure from local officials and from constituents. She has even been threatened with deselection and death….Today we hand over three and a half thousand notes of thanks to Lisa.”
During 2019, Dr Cameron feared she would be deselected from the SNP for voting against the imposition of abortion in Northern Ireland.
The following year she received threats of death for voting against buffer zones around abortion clinics.
Speaking to Dr Cameron, SPUC’s Michael Robinson said: “Your fearlessness does encourage people. We chat to supporters up and down the country and they see you standing up in parliament representing them. For too long pro-life people have not had a voice in Parliament, and you are providing a voice for them and the unborn child. Thank you so much.”
