Pro-life activist Abby Johnson launches project to help women hurt by abortion

Abby Johnson, the noted U.S. pro-life activist, has started a new website, Hurt After Abortion, to help women gain emotional and legal help after being hurt by abortion.

The website states that “Just because abortion is legal does not mean it is safe”.

“We have heard the stories of many women who have suffered physically and emotionally from a past abortion”, the website goes on. “Many of us have never shared what happened to us with another person. Some of us carry the shame and regret of making the decision and others of us have minimized the harm done to us because abortion is being ‘normalized’.”

The project is linked to Pro-Love Ministries, founded by Johnson, and is partnered with the Catholic law firm the Thomas More Society.

Pamela Whitehead, Executive Director of Hurt After Abortion, said about the website that “the hope is that women who have been physically harmed by having an abortion procedure and who are seeking help in some way would find our site…

“We know without a doubt that many of these women are sitting at church... We believe that many of those women are sitting in our church pews seeking answers, looking for help and also not finding it, so we hope to be that help.”

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “While abortion, by definition, is destructive to the unborn child, we should not forget that abortion brings both physical and mental trauma to women as well, as the site Hurt After Abortion, a project of compassion, recognises and seeks to address.

“As Abby Johnson’s new project highlights, many women simply aren’t made aware of these terrible consequences, which can range from scarring to emotional hurt, guilt and depression.

“Unfortunately, many women who have an abortion find out these results too late.

“For a review of the current literature on the impact of abortion on women’s mental and physical health, please see our free 33-page booklet “Abortion and Women’s Health”, which can be downloaded here.”
