Little miracle born weighing less than a pineapple is now “one smiley, happy baby”

Myles, born at a weight of just 725g, less than a pineapple, is now thriving after being born premature at 27 weeks.

Parents Emily and Nathan welcomed their baby into the world three months early on 3 July at Royal Bolton Hospital.

Delivered via an emergency caesarean, and weighing a tiny 725g, baby Myles’ condition was extremely fragile.

“I didn’t expect him to be so small”, recalled Emily, 24. “I was happy he was there, but I was heartbroken at what he would have to go through.”

Myles was placed in a neonatal intensive care unit, where he would spend almost ten weeks. There he received treatment for conjugated jaundice and sepsis, as well as heart complications.

Emily and Nathan had to wait three days before they could hold him and could only visit him individually because of COVID-19 rules.

His mother described holding him as “like picking up something that has just been glued back together and there’s a risk of it shattering… His forearm was the size of my little finger.”

Finally, on 30 October, they took Myles home. He now weighs 12lbs and “is one smiling, happy baby”.

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “Sometimes it takes a tiny miracle like Myles to reveal just how precious life really is.

“The staff at Royal Boston Hospital are to be commended for their life-saving efforts.

“SPUC extends its best and most heartfelt wishes to baby Myles and his parents.”
