A brave mother who saved her baby’s life after undergoing abortion pill reversal treatment has said that “there is hope, there is help” for all those experiencing a crisis pregnancy. Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications said: “SPUC is truly delighted for this brave mother and her baby. After the first drug is taken, some women change their mind about proceeding with the abortion. It is vital that women who change their mind after taking the first abortion drug are aware that there is still hope for them and their unborn child.”
When LaToya became pregnant she went to Planned Parenthood for a chemical abortion which involves taking two lethal drugs, Mifepristone and Misoprostol. After taking the first drug, LaToya was instructed to take the second drug 48 hours later.
After taking the first drug, LaToya described how she felt immediate regret and began to research what would happen if she didn’t take the second drug. She then discovered the Abortion Pill Rescue Network, which provided her with the treatment to save her unborn baby’s life.
A physician prescribed her with progesterone to offset the effects of the first abortion drug.
Nine months later, in November 2020, LaToya’s baby girl was born.
The brave mum said: “She brings me so much joy…I don’t feel like I’m ‘missing out’ on other things. I look forward to getting home from work and being with her.”
LaToya offered a message of hope to any other woman experiencing a crisis pregnancy. She said: “There is hope, there is help. You don't have to do it alone.”
Giving life a second chance
SPUC has been reporting on the growing number of parents who are reaching out for abortion pill reversal after regretting their abortion decision.
Last year, as reported by SPUC, parents Amy and Tom described how “their biggest fear turned out to be their biggest blessing” after their son was saved by abortion pill reversal treatment.
SPUC’s Michael Robinson said: “Some women may change their minds about proceeding with abortion even after the first drug, Mifepristone, has been taken. Many women seek assistance to help them preserve their unborn children. Medical treatment to help them, using progesterone, is available.
“When effective, progesterone inhibits the effects of mifepristone, preventing abortion from taking place in many cases.
“It is estimated that, to date, it has helped to preserve the lives of hundreds of babies who might otherwise have died by abortion.”
There is no evidence of any risk to either mother or developing child, especially if the use of progesterone is short-term. The use of natural progesterone in pregnancy has a long history of safety.
