March for Life Croatia 2021 see thousands take to the streets of Zagreb

Thousands of pro-life supporters in Croatia took to the streets to defend the sanctity of life last Saturday.

Pro-life supporters took to the streets of Zagreb, Croatia’s capital, in large numbers at the weekend.

“Unborn lives matter, too”, said many of the signs held by the marchers, who sang songs as they walked through the city.

Luka Hudincec, one of the march’s organisers, said: “It’s our duty to advocate for the protection of every human life, including unborn children.”

Another organiser said: “We expect the politicians who represent us on both local and national levels to uphold the basic human right – the right to live”.

During the march, there was opposition from anti-life groups who harangued the marchers. The pro-life march remained peaceful.

Abortion has been legal in Croatia since 1978, allowing termination up to the 10th week of pregnancy.

Croatia is a country with over 4 million Catholics. Many doctors refuse to carry out abortions on the grounds of their religious principles.

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “It is inspiring to see so many people take a stand against the atrocity of abortion. There is power in the presence of such loving and motivated people at these marches.

“It was also heartening to see the marchers maintain their dignity and composure in the face of anti-life agitators.

“Every life is a gift, which this event affirmed and proclaimed with love.”
