Over 300,000 people took part in a march in Mexico City to defend women and the unborn this week. Nearly one million Mexicans attended marches across Mexico overall in a “stunning” rejection of abortion, recently legalised by the nation’s Supreme Court.
Mexico March for Life began at the National Auditorium and moved towards the city’s Independence Monument.
A multitude of signs and banners were present, many slamming members of the country’s Supreme Court, which, this September, decided in favour of legalising abortion in Mexico, also robbing health professionals of the right to conscientious objection to abortion.
During the event, a doctor performed an ultrasound on a pregnant mother, allowing those in attendance to hear the baby’s heartbeat.
A moving testimony was also shared by Macial Padilla and his wife Mayela Sepulveda about their 9-year-old daughter, who has a severe brain injury.
“That does not mean that it is easy or that it does not cost us work”, they said, but life is “wonderful by itself”, upholding their daughter’s right to life.
Also present was Mayra Rodriquez, who previously worked at an abortion clinic.
She described the many “incomplete abortions” that she witnessed, including the time when an abortionist left “the head of a 14-week-old baby, which he referred to as garbage, inside the mother’s womb, without caring if that woman would die the next day from an infection”.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “It is stunning to see so many Mexicans rally to defend the unborn and mothers.
“Mexico has a large, vocal and determined pro-life movement, which is wonderful to see, clearly determined to oppose abortion and continue to fight for the unborn, despite the disgraceful Supreme Court decision last month.
“Life is to be cherished. There is no doubt that the valuable testimonies shared at the Mexico March for Life shed light on the devastating reality of abortion.
“The fight is not over.”
