A pro-life event organised by anti-abortion group Created Equal has been disrupted by abusive anti-life students who likened aborted babies to excrement.
Last year, on 19 September, Created Equal representatives, including its vice president, Seth Drayer, spoke to students in Cincinnati.
The event included a photo display depicting the brutal reality of abortion. Students from St Edmund Campion Academy also attended and handed out pro-life leaflets.
Unfortunately, a group of pro-abortion students interrupted the event and abused the organisers and volunteers.
One agitator, referring to an aborted baby, shouted: “I’ve taken bigger s***s than that!”
Responding to this crass remark calmly, Mr Drayer said: “I’m sorry, did you hear what was just said?” Turning to the abusers, he added: “Today you’re with the crowd. But you don’t have to always be with the crowd. Think beyond. Be an independent thinker. Open your mind to injustice happening here.”
Later, a pro-abortion student was heard to say: “F***ing embarrassing… You are ugly on the inside and on the outside!”
The abuse continued, punctuated by numerous expletives. Mr Drayer remained calm throughout.
Last year, a survey revealed that one in four students are “threatened, abused, alarmed or distressed” for being pro-life at university, as reported by SPUC.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “The appalling behaviour exhibited by pro-abortion students is increasingly common, especially in the United States and the UK, most recently at Exeter University and the University of Oxford, where a pro-life fresher’s stall was trashed.
“The dignity and bravery of pro-life students in the face of such abuse is inspiring. But the disgusting acts of intimidation, including death threats, directed at them must be stopped. Abusers must be held accountable.
“Recently, the UK Government introduced the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Bill, seeking to strengthen existing free speech protections on campuses.
“SPUC has now launched a petition to ensure this Bill is enforced.
“Please sign our petition here and uphold freedom of speech for pro-life students.”
