A pro-life student conference in Texas has been attacked by pro-abortion activists who threw smoke bombs at the students.
The “Boots on the Ground” conference, held in the Texan city of Austin on 22 January, was organised for students by Texas Right to Life.
During the event, agitators invaded the hotel where the conference was taking place. At first, they chanted slogans, including: “Working women, give them hell; it is right to rebel. We will defend abortion rights; working women, rise and fight!”
But the pro-abortion disrupters soon turned violent. One person lit two smoke bombs and threw them at pro-life students. Hotel staff then intervened. As well as attacking students, the hotel was vandalised with graffiti.
Texas Right for Life has since issued a statement, stating that it has seen an increased amount of hostility recently, including two bomb threats, as well as having the home addresses of its staff circulated online.
This month, SPUC reported on another pro-life event, organised by anti-abortion group Created Equal in the United States, which was also disrupted. Foulmouthed pro-abortion activists compared unborn babies to excrement.
Last year, a UK survey revealed that one in four students are “threatened, abused, alarmed or distressed” for being pro-life at university, as reported by SPUC.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “Aggressive behaviour like this from pro-abortion activists is now common, including in the UK. Last year, at Exeter University, pro-life students received appalling abuse, including death threats.
“Action must be taken now to protect pro-life students from abuse and physical violence.
“The UK Government has recently introduced the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Bill, seeking to bolster existing free speech protections on campuses. This is especially important for pro-life students, as we can see.
“SPUC has now launched a petition to ensure this Bill is enforced.
“Please sign our petition here and uphold freedom of speech for pro-life students. They need our help.”
