Noted US comedian Chris Rock has mocked the notion that abortion is “safe”. “Only one person dies, I guess?” he said sarcastically.
Chris Rock received huge media attention last week after his infamous appearance at the 2022 Oscars when actor Will Smith slapped the comedian onstage.
Well-known for speaking his mind, Rock has now spoken out about abortion.
Following the notorious slapping incident, Rock performed a comedy routine in Atlantic City, where he was heard to say, sardonically, “safe abortion is an abortion where only one person dies, I guess?”
Although Rock is not, according to his own statements, pro-life, he has not openly stated that he is pro-choice – but “pro better choice”.
Abortion is an important issue in the United States, where it is the leading cause of death for black Americans. It has been estimated that Planned Parenthood kills 247 black Americans every day.
Abortion is also the leading cause of death worldwide. In 2020 alone, its death toll was 42.6 million unborn babies, as reported by SPUC.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “It is part of the job of comedians to call out hypocrisy when they see it, and hypocrisy is in large supply when it comes to the propaganda churned out by the abortion industry and its apologists.
“One such lie is the disingenuous catchphrase, ‘abortion is safe’. Chris Rock was quite right to call it out, especially when abortion is the leading cause of black American deaths.
“At their best, comedians are truth-tellers whose penetrating commentaries demolish the absurd constructions that society has built around itself to hide the truth.
“While Rock’s comedy might not appeal to everyone, he has certainly called out one such lie. Abortion is not safe. An abortion kills at least one human being and often devastates the lives of many others, including mothers and fathers.”
