How did a burrito help track down alleged pro-abortion terrorist?

On 8 May 2022, the office of a pro-life group was firebombed in Wisconsin in the United States. A man has since been charged with arson – all because of a burrito.

A suspect named Hridindu Sankar Roychowdhury, 29, is accused of attacking the premises of a pro-life group in Wisconsin with a Molotov cocktail.

The building containing Wisconsin Family Action was also spray-painted with the message, “If abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either.”

Mr Roychowdhury was suspected after the attack. Having already retrieved DNA from the crime scene, local police authorities matched the sample with a burrito discarded by the suspect.

“Law enforcement retrieved the bag from the trash. The contents of the bag included a quarter portion of a partially eaten burrito wrapped in waxed paper”, it was reported.

Following the suspect’s arrest, Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen said: “Mr Roychowdhury used an incendiary device in violation of federal law in connection with his efforts to terrorize and intimidate a private organization.”

At the time of his arrest at an airport, Mr Roychowdhury was about to board a one-way flight to Guatemala City.

Over a hundred churches, pregnancy centres and pro-life groups have been attacked in the US since May last year, when a leak revealed that the US Supreme Court intended to overturn Roe v. Wade, which it did in June 2022.

The Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) recently reported that there were 135 attacks on pro-life individuals and groups compared with just six against pro-abortion advocates between 3 May and 24 September 2022.

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “The shockingly high number of attacks on pro-life people and groups in the United States has largely been ignored by mainstream media. Nevertheless, the abuse, criminal damage and even threats to life that pro-lifers have suffered should not be underestimated or ignored.

“Pro-abortion violence, while appalling and on the rise, goes hand in hand with the violence of abortion itself, an act intended to kill an unborn child. It is not surprising that such a destructive ethic should lead to more violence.”
