In a significant turning point, Argentines have elected avowed pro-lifer, Javier Milei, as their new President.

Securing the Presidential win, Mr Milei achieved 55.6% of the vote compared with 44.3% for his rival.

Referendum to overturn abortion law

Described by Argentines as a “political earthquake” Mr Milei has expressed his disdain for Argentina’s recently introduced abortion legislation, likening it to murder.

Mr Milei reportedly described how those who support the killing of unborn babies are “brainwashed by a homicidal policy”. Mr Milei vowed to launch a referendum to overturn Argentina’s abortion law, if he was elected into Presidency.

Affirming his pro-life stance, Mr Milei previously questioned the narrative peddled by pro-abortion activists, stating: “Life starts at the moment of fertilisation. Three weeks after that, your mother decides to kill you because you are not alive yet.”

On 30 December 2020, the Argentine Senate voted to approve a bill allowing abortion up to the 14th week of pregnancy. The passage of the bill, approved by the country’s lower house was met with large-scale protests by pro-life Argentines throughout the nation.

This year, Argentina's Ministry of Health reported that 96,664 unborn babies had been killed by abortion during 2022,

Fear will not conquer us

In official support of the Javier Milei Presidential campaign, one of Argentina’s leading pro-life bodies, Salvemos Las 2 Vidas (Let’s Save 2 Lives), has affirmed “we can’t allow fear to conquer us” and that the Presidential election allowed Argentines to vote with “hope for our children, grandparents and the most vulnerable.”

A renewed focus on pro-life policies

“This change in leadership brings with it the potential for a renewed focus on policies that value and protect the sanctity of human life. The new President has an opportunity to lead with strength, addressing the disastrous abortion legislation which is ending and harming the lives of countless Argentines.
