President Donald Trump is set to return to the White House following his projected victory in the 2024 US Election, defeating pro-abortion ideologue Kamala Harris.
President Donald Trump has declared victory in the US Election after being projected to win the Electoral College and the popular vote. He defeated Kamala Harris, his Democrat opponent – a pro-abortion ideologue who pledged to enact a nationwide right to abortion in response to the repeal of Roe v. Wade.
“We will stop Donald Trump's extreme abortion ban… When Congress passes the law to restore reproductive freedoms, as President of the United States, I will sign it”, Harris told a rally earlier this year.
Harris has been widely condemned by pro-life Americans for her extreme pro-abortion record and statements. Noted pro-life activist Lila Rose, who endorsed Trump, slammed Harris’ candidacy as “the most pro-abortion campaign in American history”.
While Rose had concerns about Trump’s muted pro-life stance, she stated that “Harris’ policies and record on abortion are objectively worse than Trump’s”.
When Harris was Attorney General of California between 2011 and 2017, she was accused of persecuting pro-life journalist David Daleiden who exposed Planned Parenthood staff after they discussed selling organs harvested from aborted babies.
Harris ordered a raid on Daleiden’s home, and his video equipment was seized. Daleiden was the first journalist to be prosecuted under California’s recording law, which he said was used by Harris “as a political weapon to silence disfavored speech”.
Harris also sought to deny judicial appointments to pro-life Catholics. In 2018, when evaluating the nomination of Brian Buescher to serve as a district judge in Nebraska, Harris suggested that his pro-life views ought to disqualify him from the role.
During the Democratic National Convention this August, which saw Harris nominated as presidential candidate, Planned Parenthood conducted abortions in a car park outside.
What does this mean for the unborn?
Daniel Frampton, SPUC’s Editorial Officer, said: “Kamala Harris campaigned heavily on abortion in recent months, evidently believing that the issue might sway the election in her favour. It appears that her pro-abortion virtue signalling wasn’t enough of a motivator on the day.
“Had Harris won, the future for America’s unborn would have been bleak, not least because of her pledge to reimpose a right to abortion. Certainly, Planned Parenthood will not be celebrating today’s election result.
“As for President Trump, it remains to be seen what his victory means for unborn children still threatened by abortion. It might be that the greatest pro-life positive we can take is that he isn’t Kamala Harris.
“Nevertheless, Trump’s vice president-elect, J. D. Vance, has said he wants “to save as many babies as possible” as VP.
“It’s also important to remember that Trump’s appointment of conservative Supreme Court justices during his first term in office led to the overturning Roe v. Wade in the first place – potentially saving thousands of lives already. For some, Trump may not be the ideal pro-life president, but his contribution in this regard has been seismic.
“While US states may now decide their own abortion laws, it’s clear that in some states there is still a deep divide on the issue. It’s incumbent on the pro-life movement to continue the fight for hearts and minds. The fact that it is still a moral concern subject to meaningful debate is a reason to be hopeful.”
