Pro-abortion Senator Kamala Harris, 55, has been chosen to be Joe Biden’s vice-presidential running mate for the upcoming U.S. election, scheduled to take place on 3 November 2020. Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications and Campaigns, said: “Biden’s choice of such an extreme pro-abortion VP, who has a history of abusing her office to persecute pro-lifers and has close ties to Planned Parenthood, underlines his presidential bid as arguably the most pro-abortion candidacy in U.S. history.”
Yesterday it was announced that pro-abortion Senator Kamala Harris will be presumptive presidential nominee Joe Biden’s running mate in the 2020 U.S. election. Should Biden win, Harris will become vice president.
Having initially run as a presidential nominee herself for the Democratic Party, losing out to Biden, Senator Harris’s career, especially her serving as state attorney general in California, has underscored her pro-abortion stance and links to Planned Parenthood.
Persecuting pro-lifers
As Attorney General of California, serving between 2011 and 2017, Harris was accused of persecuting pro-lifers such as the investigative journalist David Daleiden, who, in 2015, released videos showing officials at Planned Parenthood discussing the selling fetal tissue and organs harvested from aborted babies.
Instead of investigating Planned Parenthood, Harris issued a warrant to search Daleiden’s apartment and seize his video equipment and original recordings.
Daleiden then became the first ever journalist to be prosecuted under California’s recording law, which, Daleiden claims, constituted, on the part of Attorney General Harris and her department, “a brazen, unprecedented, and ongoing conspiracy to selectively use California’s video recording laws as a political weapon to silence disfavored speech”.
Michael Robinson said: “It appears that Senator Harris has put her office at the disposal of Planned Parenthood, which has donated money to the former attorney general’s campaigns, in order to silence pro-lifers.”
Other pro-abortion views
Previously, Senator Harris insinuated that opposition to abortion should disqualify individuals from holding public office.
When assessing the nomination of Brian Buescher to the position of district judge in 2018, Senator Harris questioned his suitability for the position on the grounds that he was a Catholic pro-lifer who belonged to the Knights of Columbus, a fraternal service order whose leader, Carl Anderson, described abortion as “the killing of the innocent on a massive scale”.
More recently, Senator Harris indicated that she would seek to make pro-life states get approval from the U.S. Department of Justice before attempting to amend state laws to restrict abortion.
Michael Robinson said: “Having also signalled her wish to repeal the Hyde Amendment, prohibiting federal funding for abortion in most cases, the selection of Senator Harris as Biden’s VP shows what is really at stake in November when Americans vote for their next administration. We can only hope that the citizens of the United States choose life and reject the expansion of abortion that threatens the lives of its unborn.”
