SPUC’s 2025 Youth Conference sees record number of young pro-lifers unite for life

SPUC has lauded its largest-ever Youth Conference that saw over 200 young people come together from across the UK in defence of life.

SPUC’s annual Youth Conference took place over the weekend of 21-23 February in Staffordshire. Over 200 young men and women heard inspirational stories and speeches from engaging speakers who refused to be silenced by pro-abortion culture.

The 2025 Youth Conference happened against a background of increasing hostility towards pro-life views. Christians continue to be arrested for praying silently inside “buffer zones”, and pro-life students require police escorts out of campus meetings, as happened at Manchester University.

This year’s conference theme was “Unmuted”. SPUC provided a platform for young people to hear and share pro-life opinions at a time when free speech is threatened on campus, but also on the streets and even in the home.

Speaking at the Youth Conference for the first time, activist Delphine Chui encouraged young delegates to speak their mind and stand up for their right to free speech. While her pro-life views have lost her friends and jobs, she is not perturbed.

“Really, when I started to realise… being pro-life is a stance you need to have but also it’s a persecuted one, and the more it was persecuted, the more I was galvanised to be more into it… because this has got to be right, that’s why people are attacking it”, said Ms Chui.

Delegates also heard from members of the Manchester Pro-life Society who faced cancellation and abuse from fellow students last year. Despite being subjected to vicious threats and intimidation, they refused to be muted by the intolerance of their peers.

Dr Dermot Kearney also spoke at the conference where he explained how he’d faced down attempted cancellation by the pro-abortion medical community for his work providing life-saving abortion pill reversal treatment to mothers who regretted taking the first abortion pill, mifepristone.

Alex Schadenberg, representing the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, highlighted the horrific reality of assisted suicide in Canada, where over 15,000 people are now killed every year.  His speech was timely as similar laws are being considered for the UK, including MP Kim Leadbeater’s assisted suicide bill.

“The future of the pro-life movement in the UK is bright”

SPUC’s Michael Robinson, Executive Director (Public Affairs and Legal Services), said: “It was wonderful to see so many new faces at our Youth Conference this year.

“We shouldn’t underestimate the character and courage it takes for young people to speak out against pro-abortion culture, against peer pressure and groupthink. It was inspiring to meet with this remarkable new generation of pro-life heroes who refuse to be part of the herd.

“The energy and opportunism that these young pro-lifers brought to our conference was reinvigorating, and the future of the pro-life movement in the UK is bright. Despite these dark times and the record death tolls from abortion, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“By giving these brave young men and women the knowledge, tools and confidence to spread the pro-life message to their peers and broader society, SPUC and its supporters are securing the future for the unborn, their mothers and the happiness of a nation where abortion is ultimately unthinkable.”
