An assisted suicide advocate has killed himself following his arrest for the alleged murder of a woman killed in the Sarco Pod in Switzerland.
Dr Florian Willet was arrested for his involvement in the death of an American woman killed by the Sarco Pod, the invention of Dr Philip Nitschke, otherwise known as “Dr Death”.
According to its inventor, the Sacro Pod is a method of assisted suicide that causes a “euphoric” death by asphyxiating its occupant with nitrogen gas.
A 64-year-old American woman was the first person to die in the Sarco Pod last year. Strangulation marks were found on her corpse, and Dr Willet, the only other person present at her death, was arrested and detained for 70 days by Swiss police.
While he was later found not to have strangled the woman, Dr Willet was left “deeply traumatised by the experience of incarceration and the wrongful accusation of strangulation”, according to Dr Nitschke.
Dr Nitschke also revealed that his colleague Dr Willet died last month “with the help of a specialized organization”. Before his death, he had fallen from a third-floor window and had been “cared for by a full psychiatric team”.
His colleague Dr Nitschke, the founder of Exit International, is a well-known assisted suicide advocate who has boasted about his role in increasing suicide rates around the world, in part by teaching the “practical steps for a DIY death” via online seminars.
The infamous doctor – who burned his medical registration certificate in 2015 – also wrote MSP Liam McArthur to recommend the Sarco Pod for use in Scotland if McArthur’s assisted suicide bill is approved by the Scottish Parliament.
He has also stated that his suicide pod “may never be an acceptable method for assisted suicide in Europe due to the negative connotations of the Holocaust”.
Last year, it was also reported that an elderly British couple had signed up for the Sarco Pod because of fears about inadequate care and expensive care home fees.
Dr Nitschke also claims to be working on a suicide implant for people with dementia.
MPs are set to debate and vote on Kim Leadbeater’s Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill on 13 June. Her Bill proposes to legalise assisted suicide in England and Wales for terminally ill adults given six months to live.
SPUC is urging all concerned citizens to lobby their MPs to warn against the mortal threat posed by assisted suicide before it is too late.
