Actress Ione Skye, 54, has claimed in a new memoir that Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers, paid for her to have an abortion when she was 17, and she was left to go to the facility alone where their child was aborted.

The daughter of singer-songwriter Donovan, Ione Skye has appeared in numerous films, including River’s Edge, Wayne’s World, and Say Anything.

Skye’s new memoir, released last week, claims that, when she was pregnant at 17, the singer Anthony Kiedis drove her to an abortion facility and “just guiltily dropped me off at the curb…

“He seemed to think that by paying for me to have the termination at a nice Beverly Hills doctor’s office instead of Planned Parenthood he was being a mensch.”

Kiedis was 25 years old at the time. Skye says they’d had unprotected sex before her pregnancy. “Of course, I could see how irresponsible we were being.”

Explaining why she had an abortion, she wrote in her memoir: “I was taking care of myself now, making a choice that felt good and important for my future.

“I wanted to be young and also to keep working. I would not have a baby at 17, with someone who didn’t want to be a dad, wouldn’t commit to me and had anger issues. Not to mention the heroin.

“I couldn’t see having a baby at this point… I was sure that adding a newborn to my list of things to worry about would be the end of me.”

Despite this, Skye also writes that she was “the type of girl who’d wanted a baby since I was a baby, who used to fantasize about finding a swaddled infant on my doorstep”.

Numerous actresses and singers have come out in recent years with abortion stories, with many claiming that they were made to choose between having a baby or having a career.

Pop star Britney Spears revealed in her own memoir that she had an abortion after getting pregnant with singer Justin Timberlake. “Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young…

“If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father”, Spears claimed.

Actress Charisma Carpenter has also recounted how noted Hollywood producer Joss Whedon pressured her to abort her baby.

“He proceeded to attack my character, mock my religious beliefs, accuse me of sabotaging the show, and then unceremoniously fired me the following season once I gave birth”, said Carpenter.

Flash Gordon actress Ornella Muti, who played Princess Aura in the 1980 cult classic, recently recounted that, as a teenager, she also refused pressure from her mother and agent to abort her daughter, Naike Rivelli, who also went on to become an actress.

“Would I have to have an abortion to make a movie? Absolutely not! So I decided to carry the pregnancy to term… and Naike was born”, said Muti.
