Actor Kelsey Grammer has related his regret for an abortion his ex-girlfriend had during their relationship, saying it “eats away at my soul… I regret it.”

Grammer’s girlfriend had an abortion in 1974, though he was “willing” to keep the child. Despite this, he admits he “did not plead with her to save his life”.

Writing in his memoir, just published, Grammer said: “I know that many people do not have a problem with abortion, and though I have supported it in the past, the abortion of my son eats away at my soul…

“I supported the idea that a woman has the right to do what she wants with her own body. I still do. But it’s hard for me. Still is.”

The star of the Frasier sitcom also appeared to criticise abortionists. “The doctor, or so-called doctors, who have executed generations of children in this manner — I have no idea how they call themselves doctors. Something about the ‘first, do no harm’ thing.”

Grammer has seven children from different marriages.

An academic study published in 2023 found that abortion has a “significant negative impact” on women’s mental health.

The study found that – compared to women whose first pregnancy outcome was a live birth – women who had abortions were 3.4x more likely to experience an increase in outpatient visits, 5.7x more likely to have an increase in inpatient admissions – as well as 19.6x more likely to have an increase in days spent in admission.

“Thus, there is a very large risk and likelihood of extended stays for psychiatric admissions following induced abortion”, the researchers concluded.

Italian actress Ornella Muti, who starred in the cult classic film Flash Gordon, recently explained that her daughter Naike Rivelli is alive today because she refused to abort her, despite pressure from her agent at the time.

“Would I have to have an abortion to make a movie? Absolutely not! So, I decided to carry the pregnancy to term… and Naike was born”, Muti said.

In another memoir, actress Ione Skye claimed that Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer of the band Red Hot Chili Peppers, paid for her to have an abortion when she was 17, and she was left to go to the facility alone where their child was aborted.

“[Kiedis] just guiltily dropped me off at the curb… He seemed to think that by paying for me to have the termination at a nice Beverly Hills doctor’s office instead of Planned Parenthood he was being a mensch”, Skye wrote.
