MSI “Reproductive Choices” UK has reported a dramatic increase in women seeking abortions, including a 51% rise in phone consultations, at the start of 2023.
Compared with the first two weeks of 2022, abortion provision at MSI has risen by half within the space of a year. During that time, MSI surgical abortion appointments also rose by 38%.
“There is no doubt we are seeing absolutely unprecedented levels of demand at the moment. All providers are reporting they are busier than they have ever been”, said Dr Jonathan Lord, the director of MSI.
In total, MSI has over 60 facilities in England and Wales.
As of 2019, roughly 25% of pregnancies end in abortion. 214,869 abortions took place in England and Wales in 2021, the highest number ever recorded since the 1967 Abortion Act.
SPUC recently launched a clicking here to commemorate the ten million unborn lives lost to abortion in England, Wales and Scotland over the last 55 years. You can pledge your prayer online on clicking here.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “While MSI’s report makes awful reading, it is not surprising. In recent years, women in the UK have been betrayed by a series of terrible decisions, including DIY abortion, exposing them even further to an abortion culture that demands yet more abortion and even more heartbreak.
“It is such destructive organisations as MSI that created this ‘unprecedented’ demand, which Dr Jonathan Lord neglects to mention.
“Abortion is not ‘healthcare’. It is the deliberate killing of an unborn baby. There is something profoundly wrong with a society when a quarter of all pregnancies end in the violent destruction of a life.”
