Under the guise of helping “millions of women gain greater choice over pregnancy,” the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) has announced a new funding provision to flog abortion and contraceptives in developing countries at the expense of the British taxpayer.
The foreign aid package would make £254 million of British taxpayer funds accessible under the CHOICES programme. Countries including Taliban-run Afghanistan, terrorist-riddled Yemen, civil-war torn Sudan, Chad, and Malawi would be able to access the money to perform abortions on their women.
The FCDO figures predict that 14 million babies will be prevented from being born by 2028, either through contraception or abortion.
The project will utilise CHAI (The Clinton Health Access Initiative)—yes, those Clintons—to allocate the funds.
The Government has justified the move with some incredibly inhumane language. Alice Macdonald MP says it “makes economic sense,” justifying her comments with UN Population Fund (UNFPA) statistics that say $660 billion will be generated by 2050 globally if the West bands together to shrink third-world populations. This huge figure will allegedly come from these women entering the job market—a baffling comment when we consider the lack of employment rights women in many of the listed countries have.
Whilst contemporary politics and thought is moving away from the debunked overpopulation lie, the FCDO is falling for the UNFPA’s outdated depopulation incentives. The move cannot be seen as anything but HM Government admitting that women in developing nations are better off being removed from the gene pool for the sake of global markets. It is eugenic and it is barbarous.
Since the start of his premiership in July 2026 Andy Burnham and the Chancellor John Healey have told government departments that there is “no new money” and that they will have to figure out their own spending reductions to fund any ideas. This makes the FCDO’s policy even more insulting. As maternity care has its core funding ring-fence removed and primary school children see £178 less spending per pupil the state is handing out £254 million to destroy babies for the sake of the global economy.
British children will suffer and foreign children will be aborted because of the malthusian ideas threaded through our foreign policy and the UNFPA.
This is not the first time the state has given public money to corrupt developing nations in the name of population control. In Spring 2023 SPUC launched the “Complicit: Is UK money contributing to coerced abortion in China?” campaign to call on the FCDO to redirect foreign aid that the Chinese Communist Party was using to force abortions on Uyghur people. SPUC revealed that over two years the British government had given £82 million to aid the bloodmongering CCP.
In an interview with GB News, SPUC’s Public Policy Manager Alithea Williams spoke to Sir Jacob Rees Mogg on the issue.
For a government that labels itself as progressive, reducing the worth of women around the globe to their economic output rather than their natural ability to mother children seems like a great regression. The FCDO has been approached before about funding dangerous regimes that coerce and force women into abortion: they do not learn.
There are many things in Afghanistan that prevent women from having “CHOICES.” Not having British money to destroy their babies is not one of them.
SPUC’s Executive Director Michael Robinson has condemned the news, saying: “As SPUC fought before against public money being used to force abortion and sterilisation in China, we will fight against similar policies in Afghanistan and Yemen.
“When the British people are told there is ‘no new money’ to aid their own children it is insulting to see over £200 million being spent abroad. The feeling of insult should turn to disgust when we realise its spent on a murderous and eugenic scheme that will lead to more violence against women and girls in places where it’s already commonplace.
“We call on the government to end the CHOICES programme now. It gives nobody ‘choice.’ It is a purveyor of death and oppression.”
