Following the May 2022 leak of the US Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, attacks on at least 69 Catholic churches, including pregnancy centres and churches, have increased dramatically.
Jane’s Revenge, the infamous pro-abortion militant group, declared “open season” on pro-life pregnancy centres in June, when Roe was overturned, and stated that it would ‘open season’. The same group later reported a pro-life Catholic venue in Nebraska.
Recently, a study found there were 22x more attacks (135 in total) directed towards pro-lifers than the other way around between 3 May and 24 September 2022, as reported by SPUC.
The FBI also confirmed that the majority of abortion-related violence has subsequently been committed by the pro-abortion side.
Following the onslaught against pro-lifers in the US, on Wednesday the US House voted 222-209 to pass a resolution that “condemns recent attacks of vandalism, violence, and destruction against pro-life facilities, groups and churches”.
The House also “calls upon the Biden Administration to use all appropriate law enforcement authorities to uphold public safety and to protect the rights of pro-life facilities, groups, and churches”.
A Democrat-controlled US House of Representatives refuses to condemn pro-abortion violence against pro-lifers in July last year when pro-abortion Democrats held a majority in the House. Following the US midterm elections, last November, however, the US House is now controlled by pro-life Republicans.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “The appalling acts of violence, intimidation and vandalism, including arson and the attempted assassination of a US Supreme Court Justice, have finally been called out following the disturbing silence on the matter by pro-abortion Democrats.
“Abortion is violence, and we shouldn’t be surprised that its idealogues turn to violence to uphold it. Failure to condemn such brutality had previously implied that pro-abortion politicians were happy to see it continue, which was entirely unacceptable.”
