Saturday 5th September 2026 saw the biggest March for Life UK ever, with over 10,000 pro-lifers marching in a public declaration against abortion. The yearly event saw not only the largest pro-life turnout yet, but the largest counterdemonstration too.
The message of the year’s march was “pro-family, pro-life,” displaying the desires of the attendees to build a nation that protects the unborn child and protects the family is proven time and time again to aid their development into adulthood.
Counter-demonstrators gathered outside the Emmanuel Centre, the march’s start point, shouting about bodily autonomy, trans rights, and calling their opponents—a group consisting of young families, Clergy, and pensioners— “fascist.”
The pro-abortion rally was organised by Abortion Rights UK, a radical pressure group that supports abortion up-to-birth. They also found support from the Socialist Worker, as well as trade unionists and transgender campaigners.
As large swathes of the March for Life’s Catholic attendees gathered to worship in Westminster Cathedral, three pro-abortion activists tried to interrupt the Mass by shouting and unravelling signs during the service. They shouted faux prayers before being led out of the building by security guards. There were no arrests.
Once the March for Life had made its way up and down Whitehall, they gathered on Parliament Square to sing worship, hear testimonies, and pray. It was entirely peaceful with the group exuding deep sorrow at the 11 million lives lost to abortion, and love to those who repaid their public witness with such anger.
One young Christian activist, known as Young Bob, was standing near the counter-protesters when one grabbed his flag displaying an image of Christ. As he went to retrieve it, he was bundled by police and arrested, accused of affray. He was released with no charge later that evening.
The mob also knocked down images of the unborn child displayed by pro-life group CBR UK.
In a final display of contempt they jeered and shouted profanities as the pro-lifers kneeled in a minute of silence for recently murdered pro-life politician, Ann Widdecombe.
Despite the unruliest reaction against the March for Life in its history the pro-lifers are not deterred. Whether it be the number of young attendees, the growing percentage of the public disgusted by abortion up-to-birth, or the fact that once again those peacefully standing for life outnumbered those standing against it, the pro-life movement in Britain is more alive than ever and sees victory on the horizon, however distant it may be.
SPUC’s CEO John Deighan was one of the 10,000 marchers. He said: “The annual March is a time to remember that whilst the House of Parliament are full of people who disregard the unborn at every opportunity, those gathering outside its gates are determined to change that. The angry mob interrupting worship and attacking pro-lifers do nothing but prove that we are right: a movement driven by love, compassion, and a desire to defend the vulnerable is one that will always win over violence.”
“The number of people standing against abortion shows that the tide has turned, victory is coming, and the number of people standing against us shows that what we are doing is effective. Abortion will be made unthinkable in this nation.”
