A pro-life female journalist required stitches after being assaulted and left bloodied during an interview about Planned Parenthood in New York. “She totally agreed with me that abortion kills a baby”, the victim said. “It was like, we were having a conversation and all of a sudden, she just lets loose on my face.”
Savannah Craven Antao, 23, was hit twice while interviewing a pro-abortion advocate in New York. The journalist, who works for the pro-life outlet Live Action, required stitches after her face was left bloodied and swollen.
While conducting an interview on the streets of New York about abortion provider Planned Parenthood on 3 April, a woman told Mrs Anteo that abortion was better than adoption.
In a shocking turn that was caught on video, the woman then punched Mrs Antao in the face with a closed fist and then hit her on the head with a mobile phone. A visibly shaken Mrs Antao was later pictured on X with blood running down her face.
The attacker later identified herself as Brianna J. Rivers. She apologised for the assault but also called Mrs Antao “a professional antagonist, not a ‘reporter’.”
Speaking to Fox News after the attack, Mrs Antao said: “Many abortion supporters, they don’t like a differing opinion – they don’t like their opinion to be challenged.”
“The truth is, abortion is violence, and it creates violence”, she continued. “And this is what abortion does to people. It hurts women, it hurts families and it hurts babies.”
Lila Rose, the founder and president of Live Action, released a defiant statement praising Mrs Antao’s work “to protect preborn children and help end abortion in our nation… Her bravery in the face of violence is heroic… We will not be intimidated.”
Attacks on pro-life activists have become increasingly common in the USA. Last month, a pro-life stall run by female students was trashed by a male student on a North Carolina campus.
Alicia Foreman of Students for Life, who filmed the incident, said: “From the beginning, he started very angrily calling them names, and I tried to de-escalate him. He stated he supports abortion through all nine months for any reason as well.”
This year, on 28 March, UK pro-life students at the University of Manchester once again required a police escort for their own protection after pro-abortion protestors blockaded an event at the campus Students’ Union.
A similar incident occurred in 2024 at Manchester University when pro-abortion protestors shouted abuse and death threats at members of the campus pro-life society. Two female pro-life students reported being followed home, and another received a rape threat.
