Popstar Lily Allen says she “can’t remember” how many abortions she’d had. She was speaking about abortion on her Miss Me? podcast with friend and co-host Miquita Oliver.

Lily Allen, a pop singer most famous for her song “Smile”, recently spoke about abortion on her podcast with Miquita Oliver.

Allen said: “Abortions, I’ve had a few, but then again, I can’t remember exactly how many”.

She laughed and added, “I can’t remember… I think maybe, like… I want to say four or five.”

“I remember once getting pregnant and the man paying for my abortion and me thinking it was so romantic”, she recalled. “I’ll tell you how romantic it was – I don’t think he texted me after!”

Also speaking on the podcast, Oliver said she’d also had “about five” abortions. “The pattern would be: Unfortunately, get pregnant, like, not want to be, have an abortion.”

Earlier this year, Oliver said she’d had an abortion while working as a host for Channel 4. She was 24 years old at the time and was “too scared and embarrassed” to tell the father.

“I was just so embarrassed and so scared he wouldn’t want to go out with me anymore. So, I kept it to myself until now”, she said.

Oliver said she had the abortion a day before working at an event at the Royal Albert Hall, where Allen performed. “That was some next-level type of cramps walking around the Royal Albert Hall…It was a very weird day. I was really quite heavily pregnant with my ex.”

Allen has also spoken about abortion before. In 2022, she complained about people “posting examples of exceptional reasons for having abortions… Most people I know, myself included, just didn’t want to have a f*****g baby. And that is reason enough! We don’t have to justify it.”

Several singers and media personalities have admitted to having abortions in recent years.

International pop star Britney Spears wrote in her memoir that she had an abortion after getting pregnant with singer Justin Timberlake.

“Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young”, she wrote.

“If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”

Nicole Appleton, of the 1990s pop group All Saints, also had an abortion, while engaged to singer Robbie Williams. She said she was pressured by her record company to have an abortion.

Recounting the aftermath, Appleton said: “I wanted to kill myself. Afterwards, everyone pretended it hadn’t happened.”
