American conservative commentator Brett Cooper recently told a podcaster that her father wanted her aborted.

Brett Cooper, 24, is a well-known commentator in the United States and on YouTube, having previously hosted The Comments Section at the American conservative outlet The Daily Wire. She now hosts The Brett Cooper Show as an independent creator.

Appearing on the Shawn Ryan Show, Cooper recently spoke about how her father had pressured her mother to abort her. She later found out about it when she was sixteen.

A discussion with her mother revealed that her view of abortion was changed by the experience after it was given a “more personal perspective”.

“What really changed her mind permanently about abortion was when my dad came to her and was like, ‘I don’t want a child’”, Cooper told Ryan.

Her mother ultimately said, “If you want this so badly, you go make the appointment”, but Cooper’s father “couldn’t bring himself to do it”.

Cooper is not bitter about the revelation. “I have a lot more empathy for him as I’ve gotten older, and I understand him more,” she said. “One of the greatest parts of growing up is seeing your own parents as humans, with their own childhood, their own baggage.”

Marrying in 2024 also brought a fresh perspective to Cooper, healing old wounds. “He [her husband] was just able to look at my dad as just a human and was able to find him so endearing and funny and kind.

“Being able to see him through my husband’s lens… that’s made me so much better.”

Speaking on a podcast last year, actor Sylvester Stallone, the star of the Rambo and Rocky films, said that his mother almost aborted him: “My mother would say, ‘The only reason you’re here is because the hanger didn’t work’ or ‘bouncing down those steps didn’t cause you to get lost.’”

However, the actor said that he didn’t hold any ill will towards his mother, explaining: “My mother, she was a troubled person. She was put into an orphanage, you know, and a very cruel orphanage… She literally couldn’t stand to be touched or touch at all. I mean, not even a hug.”

Italian actress and singer Naike Rivelli is also alive today after her mother – Ornella Muti, who starred in the cult classic film Flash Gordon – refused to abort her after being pressured to do so by her agent.

“Would I have to have an abortion to make a movie? Absolutely not! So, I decided to carry the pregnancy to term… and Naike was born”, Muti said later.
